Luckily I had to leave Santiago one day, because I risked staying forever... and nothing better than getting to Temuco in southern Chile, where I met my school friend Nacho and his dear girls Paulina and Laura!!
After ten days of partying every other night, arriving at a house with an 8 months old baby and my friends acting as dedicated parents can be a real shock, but they are so lovely that it was just what I needed! Both are professors of Economics at Temuco, (the capital of the region of Mapuche Indians - one of the poorest areas of the country) and chatting with them and their friends Gabriel and Claudia, I have learned many things about Chile that I ignored.
Encouraged by Nacho, I rented a car to explore the beautiful Lake Region on a "road trip" like Thelma & Louise, but only with myself and without the precipice... At the end of the day, having traveled about 500 kilometers and visited three huge lakes and spectacular blue waterfalls, I stayed in the natural hot springs of Huife until I was afraid of falling asleep at the wheel and decided to return...
