GALÁPAGOS - Santa Fe, Plazas, Santiago y Bartolomé

Ya se ha convertido en una broma, pero nuestro guía tiene que pasarse el día diciéndonos: “Cuidado con la iguana! Leon marino a la derecha! Cuidado con el piquero!”. Y es que son tantos los animales y su ignorancia de los humanos es tal, que si uno no mira al suelo corre el riesgo de pisar una iguana marina cada dos minutos!!

Ayer empezamos el día en Santa Fe, para ver nuestras primeras iguanas terrestres, de un color amarillo intenso (las marinas son negras, rojas y verdes) y tras hacer snorkel con pingüinos pescando entre nosotros, fuimos a Plaza Sur, con su bosque de cactus y la alfombra roja de flores, para admirar el espectáculo de los pájaros tropicales en los acantilados. Al volver a bordo, Juan Manuel empezó a gritar “ballenaaaas” y nos encontramos en medio de una cincuentena de ballenas piloto (un tipo de delfín enorme) jugando con nuestro barco!

Hoy ha sido un día de paisajes espectaculares. Esta mañana, me ha impresionado muchísimo el paseo por la Bahía Sullivan de la Isla Santiago, en el que hemos recorrido un auténtico mar de lava solidificada, con formas increíbles… era como estar en otro planeta. Yo me imaginaba a los de la NASA engañándonos y a la sonda Mars Pathfinder paseándose por allí…

Y esta tarde, después de un nuevo snorkel con pingüinos, hemos tenido la vista más conocida de las Galápagos, desde la cima de la Isla Bartolomé. Como yo no había visto las postales, el paisaje me dejó sin aliento.

It has become a joke, but our guide has to spend the day saying: "Mind the Iguana! Sea lion on your right! Watch out for the booby!". And the thing is that there are so many animals and his ignorance of humans is such that if one doesn’t look down there is a high risk of stepping on a marine iguana every two minutes!

Yesterday we started the day in Santa Fe, to see our first land iguanas, bright yellow (the marines are black, red and green) and after snorkelling with penguins fishing with us, we went to South Plaza, with its forest of cactus a red carpet of flowers, to admire the spectacle of the tropical birds on the cliffs. Returning on board, Juan Manuel started screaming "Whaaales!" and we were then in the middle of nearly fifty pilot whales (a type of huge dolphin) playing with our boat!

Today was a day of spectacular landscape. This morning, I was greatly impressed by the walk at Sullivan Bay on Santiago Island, where we have wandered a sea of solidified lava, with amazing forms... It was like being on another planet. I imagined the NASA lying to us and the robot Mars Pathfinder walking around there...

And this afternoon, after a new snorkel with penguins, we had the most famous view of the Galapagos, from the top of Bartolome Island. As I had not seen the postcards, the landscape took my breath away.
