COLOMBIA - Medellín

 Al final no he apreciado apenas la Fiesta de las Flores de Medellín, salvo por el hecho de que fuera mas dificil encontrar albergue y de que los precios fueran mas caros… Me perdí por un día el famoso desfile de flores y apenas he visto algunas vírgenes ya marchitas…

Estos días pasados he oído muchas cosas de Medellín, de la amabilidad de su gente (los paisas), de sus mujeres (ideal de belleza de los colombianos), de su calidad de vida y animacion nocturna… En apenas 24 horas en la ciudad no he podido apreciar mucho de eso (la gente es encantadora, como en el resto de Colombia, pero sus mujeres me han sorprendido más por lo contrario…), pero sí me ha impresionado mucho su geografía (en un valle rodeado de montañas), sus plazas (la plaza Botero con sus 23 esculturas es preciosa), la moderna Bibioteca España y el metro-cable, que atraviesa las favelas como un icono de modernidad en medio de la pobreza… y te lleva un parque natural a 5 minutos de la ciudad!

Quedé con Felipe (uno de los amigos de Juanca que conocí en Bogotá) para una cerveza, pero me terminó levando a una cena de trabajo con clientes suyos del sector financiero. Para ser una cena de trabajo, me reí muchísimo, aprendí un montón sobre Colombia (y el mundo en general) y lo pasé fenomenal… y encima me terminaron invitando! Increíble…

In the end I didn’t appreciate much the Flower Festival in Medellin, except for the fact that it was more difficult to find a hostel and that prices were more expensive... I missed by one day the famous flower parade and I've hardly seen some virgins withered...

These past days I have heard a lot of Medellin, the friendliness of its people (paisas), their women (ideal of beauty for Colombians), their quality of life and animation at night ... In just 24 hours in the city I haven’t seen much of that (the people are lovely as in the rest of Colombia, but their women have surprised me more on the contrary...), but I was very impressed by its geography (in a valley surrounded by mountains), its nice squares (Plaza Botero, with his 23 sculptures is beautiful), the modern Biblioteca España and the metro-cable, which crosses the favelas (shanty towns) as an icon of modernity in the midst of poverty...and takes you to a natural park 5 minutes away from the city!

I was going to meet Felipe (one of Juanca’s the friends’ I met in Bogotá) for a beer, but he ended up taking me to a working dinner with his clients from the financial sector. Considering it was a working dinner, I laughed a lot, learned much about Colombia (and the world in general) and had a great time... and they ended up inviting me! Amazing...
