ECUADOR - Baños de Agua Santa

Ya empieza a ser frecuente que prolongue mi estancia en lugares donde solo pensaba pasar una noche, pero Baños ha sido una verdadera sorpresa. Vine solo porque me lo dijo mi amiga Bea, pero no conocía nada del sitio ni de lo que se podía visitar aquí y salgo feliz, habiendo disfrutado de una de las mejores etapas de mi trayecto hasta ahora…

El pueblo no se llama Baños de Agua Santa por casualidad… Desde que llegué he comprobado que aquí hay agua en el subsuelo (es una fuente termal), en la superficie (esta lleno de rios y cascadas) y en el cielo (ha llovido todos los dias y a todas horas)!

Y lo he pasado genial también gracias a las cuatro niñas que me rodearon en la estacion de buses de Quito y con las que he terminado pasando estos días! Dos mexicanas (Marcela y Alma), una californiana (Emily) y su amiga local (Diana), que están disfrutando a tope de su condición de recién graduadas en arquitectura!

Ayer fue un día completo: mañana en bicicleta por la maravillosa Ruta de las Cascadas, tarde haciendo “canyoning”, noche en los baños termales (el agua caliente sale de la fuente termal y la fría la desvían desde la catarata que tienen encima!) y fiesta en los bares locales hasta que la policía los cerró!

Esta mañana he conseguido sobreponerme a la resaca de anoche y levantarme pronto para pasar el día haciendo “rafting” por el río y sus rápidos… el dolor de cabeza no se fué hasta el almuerzo, pero el paisaje y la experiencia merecieron la pena!

It is becoming common to prolong my stay in places where I only planned to spend one night, but Baños has been a real surprise. I came just because my friend Bea told me, but I knew nothing of the place nor what one could visit here and I leave very happy, having enjoyed one of the best times of my journey so far...

The town is not called Baños de Agua Santa by chance... Since I came here I found that there is water in the basement (it's a hot spring), on the surface (is full of rivers and waterfalls) and in the sky (it rained all day and every hour)!

And I had a great time thanks also to the four girls that surrounded me in the bus station in Quito and with whom I've ended up hanging out these days! Two Mexicans (Marcela and Soul), a Californian (Emily) and their local friend (Diana), who are fully enjoying their status of recent graduates in architecture!

Yesterday was a full day: morning on the bike through the wonderful Route of the Waterfalls, afternoon canyoning, night at the thermal baths (hot water comes out of the hot spring and the cool is deviated from the waterfall above them!) and partying at the local bars until the police closed them!

This morning I managed to get over the hangover from last night and get up early to spend the day rafting down the rapids of the river... the headache didn’t leave me until lunch but the landscape and the experience were really worth it!!
