Acabamos el día en Española, con uno de los momentos más bellos hasta ahora: sentados en el acantilado de Punta Pitt, con los colores rojos de las flores y la luz el atardecer, viendo las docenas de piqueros de patas rojas y las fragatas en vuelo.
Yesterday we had to get up at 5:30 (after a hectic night sailing against the current when my greatest achievement was not falling off the bed!), but the effort was worth it because we managed to see up to three pairs of albatrosses performing their courting dance. They are amazing birds and keep the same partner throughout their life but renewing their love with a really delicate dance of eight steps...
We saw them flying later on the cliffs near the blue footed boobies, pelicans and many other birds, before returning to the beach where we had left countless marine iguanas resting. After a session of snorkeling playing in the water with sea lions, we arrived to the spectacular beach of Gardner Bay where our hunger for these animals was seen amply satisfied because the landscape was an infinity of them resting on white sand!
Today, the stars of the day were the birds. We visited the tiny Isla Lobos in the morning to see blue-footed boobies with their little babies (they are in full breeding season), and after circling Kicker Rock without snorkeling (the water wasn’t very clear) we witnessed an amazing show where boobies and frigate birds were trying to steal the sardines from sharks and sea lions fishing in harmony!
We ended the day in Española, with one of the most beautiful moments so far: sitting on the cliff of Punta Pitt, with the red colors of the flowers and the sunset light, watching the dozens of red-footed boobies and frigate birds in flight.
