BOLIVIA - Isla del Sol

¡¡Estoy en Bolivia!! Desde el principio de mi viaje, mucha gente me ha hablado de Copacabana y la Isla del Sol, en el lado boliviano del lago Titicaca, pero yo no estaba muy seguro de si quedarme a dormir o no… hasta que subí el cerro del extremo norte de la isla y se me quitaron las dudas!! Me senté a leer con el inmenso lago delante de mí y la ciudad sumergida que descubrió J. Cousteau a mi derecha, sin importarme cuando salía el próximo barco de vuelta…

La Isla del Sol es el origen legendario de la civilización Inca y pese a las pocas ruinas que quedan (un par de templos y una piedra ceremonial), toda ella tiene un componente histórico-mágico-religioso… Apenas tiene árboles, pero el paisaje de colinas, terrazas, acantilados, playas y cabos es espectacular.

Me recorrí la isla de Norte a Sur (son 10 Km) para dormir en el pueblito de Yumani y viendo la maravillosa puesta de sol me alegré aun más de haber tomado el tiempo de disfrutar del paisaje…

I'm in Bolivia! Since the beginning of my trip, many people have told me about Copacabana and “Isla del Sol” on the Bolivian side of Lake Titicaca, but I was not quite sure whether to sleep there or not... until I climbed the hill at the north end of the island and it took away my doubts! I sat down to read with the huge lake in front of me and the submerged city discovered by J. Cousteau to my right, without really caring about when the next boat would leave...

The Sun Island is the legendary origin of the Inca civilization and despite the few remaining ruins (a couple of temples and a ceremonial stone), all of it has a historical-magic-religious component... It has almost no  trees, but the landscape of hills, terraces, cliffs, beaches and capes is spectacular.

I walked the island from north to south (it’s 10 Km long) to sleep in the village of Yumani and watching the beautiful sunset I was even more glad that I had taken the time to enjoy the landscape...
